Understanding EVs

Welcome to a new age of driving. At Russ Hubler Automotive, you can experience glory on the roads. Our Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram models are perfectly situated to help you maximize your driving experience. There are various types of EVs that can help you better navigate the roads.

Which EV is Right for Me?

There are various EVs on the road, and Russ Hubler Automotive is happy to help shine a light on the different types of vehicles you can drive.

Hybrid EVs

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) employ gasoline and a combustion engine. It uses electric motors to supplement the engine's performance, offering a longer driving distance than traditional vehicles. It uses regenerative braking to recharge the hybrid battery.

Plug-in Hybrid EVs

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) employ combustion engines and electric motors to perform, too. However, you can also switch to all-electric driving for short distances, changing the way you travel. You can plug in your vehicle to charge the hybrid battery, and it also uses regenerative braking to recharge while you drive.

Battery EVs

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) forgo the need for an internal combustion engine. Instead, it uses electric motors to propel your journey. These vehicles reduce tailpipe emissions and have an all-electric platform, which differs from traditional automobiles.

Owning an EV

Choosing an EV is a great decision for many drivers. There are benefits attached to owning an EV. Whether you choose a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or BEV, you will find there are plenty of benefits to go around.

    HEV

These vehicles most closely resemble traditional models. Therefore, the maintenance that one must perform doesn't differ from what you'd expect. It's important that you stay up to date on your oil changes and other required maintenance so that you can protect your HEV's lifespan. Since these vehicles offer greater driving distance than traditional models, you'll have fewer visits to the gas station to refuel, saving you money.

    PHEV

Because these models also employ combustion engines, you will also need to perform many of the familiar routine services. One of the benefits of owning a PHEV is its ability to travel on all-electric power for short distances. If you're staying in town and you don't have a long way to go, you can switch to all-electric driving and save your gasoline. Because you can recharge your vehicle from home, you may seldom have to rely on gasoline to go places.

    BEV

BEVs change how you care for your vehicle. Because you don't have a combustion engine, many of the common services are unnecessary for you. However, services like tire rotation, HVAC care, etc., are things you'll need to remain aware of so that you can maintain your vehicle's health. The average cost per mile of a BEV is $0.03, whereas the average cost per mile of a traditional vehicle is $0.12. There are clear savings when you make the switch to a BEV.

    Charging from Home

BEVs and PHEVs need charging, as they utilize electric motors to perform. When you own a BEV, it's essential that you recharge your automobile. Fortunately, you can do this in multiple ways.

    1. Level I Chargers: These chargers are the typical outlet you can find in nearly any home. You don't require special equipment to use this method. While it's not the fastest way to recharge your BEV, it's an easy way to connect and get the power you need for the next day's journey.
    2. Level II Chargers: These chargers require specialized equipment and should always be installed by a licensed professional. They offer quicker recharge time than Level I chargers and are great ways for you to get back on the road quicker.
    3. DC Fast Chargers: These charging stations can be found in public. Depending on where you choose to power up, you may need a subscription, but it is the fastest method of recharging your PHEV or BEV.
